Four Shetland Sketches

Organ solo

7 minutes

First performed by Andrew Scanlon at the First Presbyterian Church,

Pittsburgh, on November 24th at a concert celebrating Scotland.

“Alastair Stout’s Four Shetland Sketches for organ are not taxing to the player

nor do they demand an overall resourceful instrument. Witty without being arch,

at around seven minutes for the set they could  be played as a suite or used

separately as incidental service music. This is a very welcome addition to the,

as yet, very limited repertoire of worthwhile Celtic-influenced organ music.”

                                Organists’ Review, October 2008

Movement 4 - performed by the composer

in Heinz Chapel, Pittsburgh, PA

Pit Hame Da Borrowed Claes

Da Slockit Light

(with birds singing Stout’s Trip to Skea)

Da New Rigged Ship

(on the occasional swell)

Margaret Ann Robertson

(with scattering birds and a reflection)
