Dinosaur

Pange Lingua Triptych, No. 2

Bassoon and piano

5 minutes

For David Sogg.

Programme Note:

Dinosaur is the second piece in my Pange Lingua triptych. Scored for for bassoon

and piano, it was written in 2004 for the American bassoonist David Sogg. The work

is a deconstruction of an earlier choral piece Sweetest Wood which uses the plainsong as its source material, Dinosaur's relationship to the Gregorian chant is therefore that of second cousin.

In my mind, Dinosaur outlines, perfectly, the shape of a Brachiosaurus.

The third piece in the triptych is a trio for bassoon, viola and piano, to be completed.
